Šaldy Liberec (State Opera Liberec) in the Czech Republic.
I just finished my 1st sing through as Mimì, after being invited with only a day’s notice to fill in for a rehearsal. I listened back to the recording I made of the rehearsal and am overall very happy and think the role is a perfect fit! But now I can make goals for the technical areas I’d like to improve and the sections that I thought I knew, but really didn’t.
I spent my quarantine diligently memorizing my dream roles: Nedda (Pagliacci), Mimì (La bohème), Desdemona (Otelo) and Marguerite (Faust). I would do this hours a day and sometimes I would ask myself, “why am I doing this? It’s not like I’ve been hired to sing this!”
After the Austrian lockdown, I was asked to cover the role of Nedda for SommerSalon Wartholz in Austria, just outside of Vienna. Then yesterday I was asked to fill in for today’s rehearsal as Mimì. I only had to review the score a little before rehearsals, since I had already put in the hours of work during the lockdown.
While I don’t really believe in vision boards, I do believe in actively helping destiny. Whenever I have an audition for a role, I’ll sing through the opera and envision myself singing it at that particular theater…admittedly, rarely do these visions come to fruition for me, but it’s still fun to dream!
So far 2 out of the 4 roles I’ve been working on in quarantine have appeared immediately following the lockdown, hopefully my career follows in this direction for 2020!
Lisa Algozzini as Musetta💃🏻 in La bohème with the Opernspiele Munot in Switzerland🇨🇭 in July 2018. I will be collaborating again with the Opernspiele Munot in their concerts on February 6 & 7 at 19:00 with the Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów🇵🇱
I’ve had such a wonderful 2018! I made my role debut as Despina in Mozart’s Così fan tutte where I was partnered with the renowned La Scala basso buffo, Bruno Praticò, as Don Alfonso at the Teatro del Pavone in Perugia, Italy. Within a couple of days, I made my role debut as Musetta in Puccini’s La bohème with the Opernspiele Munot in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. In addition, I’ve done a lot of traveling for both work and pleasures including: Cabo, Chicago, Prague, Sorrento, Varna as well as traveling to 3 new countries: Cyprus, Portugal and Serbia. I then ended the year by joining the roster of Vox International Artists for worldwide representation. Watch this 1min video to see my year in review: Lisa Algozzini – Looking Back on 2018.
