Last night I went to the Artis International Cinema (Vienna, 1010), a modern theater in the center of Vienna that shows films in English. I saw the film Joker, without knowing anything about it prior…was I in for a shock! It is definitely the disturbing reality of the dark side of living in the USA: lack of funding for mental health and gun control. We all know someone in either our family or friends dealing with mental health issues. Instead of keeping it hidden and ignored, we should unite to find a solution. My mom is a psychologist, and so these topics are brought up a lot. I remember her saying that around the same time the US government loosened gun laws is when they started cutting funding for mental health services. I hope the shock of this film (shocking because it’s the undeniable truth) will help change how mental health and gun control is treated in the US.
Celebrating Julien’s birthday, only 2 days after he officially moved to Vienna 🇦🇹from his native France 🇫🇷. We went to the Heurige, Restaurant Thurn (Vienna 1130), with a modern, airy ambiance and fantastic service. But the spirit of holidays are always intensified with kids around. Here is my 11-month old goddaughter, Julien and Ashley’s daughter, figuring out what this birthday thing is all about…it will be her turn soon!
Not surprisingly, the best Fledermaus I’ve ever seen! Volksoper really specializes in the German operetta repertoire. To have a Viennese operetta in Vienna is a real treat! One could tell there was such an insider knowledge of this piece, by performers and crew, which added tremendously to the performance! Also the singers were perfectly cast and each added their own individual touch touch to their role.
Looking forward to singing my 3rd of Giovanni’s ladies in March in Czechia 🇨🇿and then again in June in Austria 🇦🇹, Donna Elvira!!
