It’s so nice to get to work with colleagues from all over the world. Milica Jovicic, who sang Ottavia when I sang Poppea in Athens, is a native of Belgrade who is currently living in Barcelona. Lucky for me, she just so happened to be visiting her family during the same few days I was here…and guess what? She’s on her way to Vienna on Saturday (which is where I’m currently living). So great! After meeting during the production in Athens in 2017, we have already met in Barcelona, now Belgrade and soon in Vienna!
Milica took me to the Skadarlja (the bohemian quarter) for some traditional Serbian food: beef soup, shopska salad (basically a Greek salad, minus the lettuce) and Karageorge Schnitzel (fried pork roll, filled with cream). After that we went to the fancy cafe at one of the oldest hotels in Serbia, Moskva Hotel, where I tried the typical Moskva Šnit (the colorful cake in the photo): a light cake with layers of cream, cherries, pineapple and almond.
